Everyone is touting social media as the magic bullet for business as they go for premium content and even cheap TikTok likes in order to make their social media marketing campaigns successful… the absolute must-have tool in your arsenal of weapons to win your own personal war in the world of business… and yes you can track just how accurate your shooting is.. and map your return like every good plan…
But it is no longer a return on investment… well not really… it is more a return on interaction… helping those you meet on and perhaps offline really does have its rewards both personal and business… we are all very simple creatures really and it doesn’t take much to make us smile… do something nice for someone and you get a nice warm feeling and even better so do they. You help them and they want to help you.. and they become an advocate… so your reward may not come back from the same source. Those little nice things that happen… probably mean you have put into the pot of pleasant…
I like doing business with people who are fun, interesting and give me a warm, fuzzy feeling… being friendly costs nothing and makes you a far better person… personally, I dislike those who are takers and hunters… you know the ones who talk about return on investment as the be-all and end-all in business… and they really do not get social media or networking at all… they have put a price on everything and everyone… remove that and you find a whole new world that is not only much more fun and interesting but that actually delivers.. so forget return on investment and think of return on interaction…
Feeding or broadcasting stuff using social media is all well and good and a perfect way of building an online presence for your business or brand… but by interacting you create relationships that help your business in many ways as well as yourself.
If it is on Facebook the public interactions are seen by the friends and contacts of the person you are talking too and as we are nosey we go to see who our friends are spending time with… and they may migrate in your direction too.. the same as would happen in a bar or pub environment… and when they do that and start a conversation their friends and contacts have the same opportunity of doing so… by the time you have finished a rather large, connected honeycomb network has been created. Even better… they are used to talking and often have shared interests and hobbies so you are not short of a few things to say… You are probably connected to many people in your immediate area. I know loads in Essex, London, and Hertfordshire as they all border where I live… but I also have connections all over the place too… but you never know who is listening on-line…
