The man of the hour had this to say about this outstanding achievement:
“Your boy from the Boogie Down won a MANGA AWARD! My Saturday PM title, UNDERGROUND, brings home the BRONZE AWARD at the 18th Annual Japan International Manga Awards!
It’s SO AWESOME that the titles under the SATURDAY AM banner continue to get international recognition, and I’m so happy to be a part of it! To think that before joining this amazing team, I didn’t think making MANGA was possible for me. Thanks again to Saturday AM, my editor Austin Harvey, for making Volume 1 possible, and to all my readers!
Gonna work on making Volume 2 pack even more of a punch!
Thanks also to Saturday AM Social Coordinator Demetrene Billups for helping get UNDERGROUND entered.”

In Underground, Vol 1, Karim Yun, a biracial taekwondo fighter, takes on New York’s most brutal underground martial artists. Fueled by a desire for revenge against the gang that attacked him and shattered his Olympic dreams, Karim faces a series of intense battles against colorful and formidable opponents.
However, Karim’s journey isn’t without its challenges. The violent attack left him with a debilitating illness that threatens his life if he pushes himself too far. Acting as his moral compass is his nurse, who urges him to change his reckless lifestyle while grappling with the dangers and allure of underground mixed martial arts.
