Let me tell you, when it was finally announced that Arcane was coming back for another season, I couldn’t wait to dive back into this incredible story. Sadly, this season will also be the final part of this epic tale.
Two Acts Released, One to Go
So far, two acts of the finale have been released, with one left to go. The story this season has been as good, if not better, than Season 1, already delivering jaw-dropping moments that left my jaw on the floor.
SPOILER WARNING: I will mention a few key plot points from the series thus far, so be forewarned SPOILERS AHEAD!
Jinx’s Shocking Season 1 Finale
In the finale of Season 1, Jinx delivered a devastating blow to Piltover when she launched a surprise attack on the Council—ironically, right when they were brokering peace with Zaun. Talk about jumping the gun.
This attack was the tipping point for the already boiling tensions between the two cities. Honestly, though, I feel like the negotiations were doomed to fail, considering Silco never intended to turn over Jinx. Say what you will about his character and motives, but his love for Jinx was undeniable.
Let’s be real: Jinx’s loose-cannon attitude and mental instability were bound to bite someone in the butt, and in the end, it was Silco who paid the price. That moment was gut-wrenching, especially knowing her chaotic nature was born from trauma and guilt. Losing Silco was just another reason for her to spiral further into self-loathing, fully embracing her alter ego as her true self. Truly tragic.
Caitlyn’s Tragic Transformation
As heartbreaking as Jinx’s descent has been, what’s even more tragic is the effect her actions had on Caitlyn. In Season 1, Caitlyn was virtuous, kind-hearted, and driven by a strong sense of justice, even if sheltered from the world’s harsh realities. But after losing her mother because of Jinx, Caitlyn has slowly devolved into someone far more callous, consumed by revenge.
Big Changes for Viktor
I could go on forever about these characters, but I’ll keep it brief. This season has brought several paradigm shifts, none more significant than Viktor’s.
After being exposed to the power of the Arcane, Viktor has undergone a profound transformation. Emerging from what I’ll call his “cocoon,” his frail body has been augmented and reborn into a stronger version of itself. This evolution was foreshadowed in Season 1, but now the change is complete.
What’s even more intriguing is how his mindset has shifted. Viktor seems to have found an answer to the question that’s haunted him—how to save the people in the Lanes. But the Arcane’s true nature remains unclear. Is it a friend? A foe? Whatever it is, it’s rooted itself in Viktor and seems to be pulling his strings.
What Happened to Jayce?
The same could be said for Jayce. After a brief time skip, the whereabouts of Jayce, Echo, and Professor Heimerdinger are unknown following their capture by an unknown entity.
When Jayce reappears, he’s a shell of his former self. His clothes are tattered, his face visibly worn and scared, and his mind seems scattered, like he’s being influenced by something—or someone—else. He’s been given a mission to go after Viktor, but why? That question remains unanswered.
So Much to Unpack
And honestly, this is just scratching the surface! So much has happened in these first six episodes, from Ambessa manipulating the Council and Caitlyn to gain control of Hextech, to Vi and Jinx discovering that Vander is still alive. This season has my head spinning in the best way possible.
It’s bittersweet knowing that next week’s episodes will be the last. This world, its characters, and their stories have been such a joy to dive into. The writing, the animation, the world-building, and the philosophical themes are simply top-notch. Arcane has truly raised the bar for what an animated series can be.
I can’t wait to see how this memorable story concludes.
